As part of the Research Alliance Ruhr, the College for Social Sciences and Humanities is seeking to fill this professurship at the Faculty of History, Ruhr University Bochum, as soon as possible. Based at the Institute of Art History at the Ruhr University Bochum, this full-time position is aimed at scholars of exceptional caliber who contribute a distinctive body of work to the field of digital curatorial practices and their epistemic, ethical, political and social implications. The professorship will focus on the question of how digital storage and display techniques affect the epistemic status, political significance, and ethical evaluation of objects that form cultural knowledge and memory.

Die künftige Stelleninhaberin/der künftige Stelleninhaber soll den Bereich der spätmittelalterlichen Geschichte in Forschung und Lehre in ganzer Breite und internationaler Sichtbarkeit vertreten. Gesucht wird eine Persönlichkeit, die sich durch klar erkennbare, international rezipierte Forschungsschwerpunkte auszeichnet, die thematisch der Vielfältigkeit der im europäischen Spätmittelalter verorteten Phänomene gerecht werden.

The Professorship will be temporary for 5 years, W3 on the German Salary Scale in the Institute of History, to start 1 September 2023. Afterwards, there may be the possibility of employment as a temporary civil servant (Ademische*r Oberraetin/Oberrat auf Zeit).
The successful candidate will be expected to cover the field of Late Medieval History in its entirety in both research and teaching on an international level. We are looking for a scholar who stands out through research foci which are both clearly defined and received on an international level and which also do justice to the wide variety of phenomena which characterise the Late Middle Ages in Europe.

Die Professur für transkulturelle Geschichte Nordamerikas soll in Forschung und Lehre der thematischen und methodischen Vielfältigkeit der Geschichte Nordamerikas in seinen transatlantischen und transpazifischen Bezügen und Phänomenen insbesondere in der Neueren und Neuesten Geschichte gerecht werden. Sie soll in Forschung und Lehre vorrangig die transkulturellen Verflechtungen des Nordamerikanischen Kontinents im Inneren wie in seinen Außenkontakten für den Zeitraum von der Frühen Neuzeit bis ins 21. Jahrhundert abdecken.
