The faculty’s main areas of research

The Faculty of History is dedicated to the study of historical events and legacies. For example, through critical reflection on social developments and systems, it develops knowledge that provides guidance and practical insights for society, with a view to the future.
The diverse methods and fields of work involved in researching historical events and legacies offer great potential for bringing together and further developing interdisciplinary questions relating to the subject areas of our faculty’s individual disciplines.

The Faculty sees its role here as identifying and, where possible, strengthening the research strengths and interests of our academic staff. The overarching aim is to generate the expected synergy effects both within and outside the Faculty, thereby fostering cross-faculty research collaborations and promoting interdisciplinary and international research within our Faculty.

This is how our research priorities have developed; they are being continuously expanded, particularly with a view to relevant opportunities for collaboration. The faculty provides concrete support for these activities through regular research days and its own research funding programme. See the Perspective Agreements (2021–25).
